Gun Refinishing, Parkerizing, Rust Bluing, Hot Bluing, Ceramic Coating & more | The Shooter's Roost

ABOUT US

"Firearm finishing and refinishing is an old art form with modern challenges…

I disassembled (actually tore apart) my first firearm at age seven. Almost fifty years later, if I haven’t learned a trick or two about guns, I certainly missed a good chance. Today, we apply new chemicals, new techniques, new metals, and even new legal restrictions to “the new” and “the old”.

Our goal at The Shooter’s Roost is to create a finish that you and/or your customers can be proud of. We work to produce as high quality a finish as possible at the most practical price possible. From matte to high gloss to parkerized to plated, we use the same high standards throughout.

When you say: ‘…refinished by The Shooter's Roost’ we want people to hear excellence!”

Dear Mr. Bailey,

Just wanted to drop you a line and let you know that I've made it over to Port Angeles and have picked up the Winchester 71 from my folks' place. It looks absolutely perfect!

I have a variety of firearms, from a Daniel Defense AR-15 to a S&W 500, and I take pride in maintaining these firearms in top esthetic and functional condition. However, you have made my Winchester 71 the pride of my small collection! I'm very pleased with the work that you did, and I know that my grandfather would have been pleased as well to see his old rifle in this condition.

So thank you again for your good work, and for delivering it back to me in your promised time frame. Both are much appreciated.

Cheers, and keep up the good work,

Eric Page

Dear Jay-

I am taking this time to thank you for the outstanding work that you have performed on my Savage 67E 12 gauge shotgun. I purchased this new in 1988 for the 1988 deer hunting season here in Western NY. This was a limited Edition that Savage produced. The shotgun is a smoothbore that was designed by Savage strictly for the shooting of rifled slugs. The shotgun is and always has been accurate in placing its shots. After 20 years of hunting, the factory bluing was getting worn to the point that I was getting some surface rust occurring on the barrel and receiver after each day of hunting last season. No amount of oiling was resolving the problem. Then I discovered your web sight when looking into having the barrel and receiver re-blued or parkerized. After contacting you and discussing options and colors, I went with the ceramic coating in MIDNIGHT GREEN. The resulting workmanship, care and finished product that you provided is just pure magic. I have a grandson, who will be 2 years old in September, whom I am hoping will be a future hunter. He will be 12 years old when this shotgun will be 30 years old. This will make a fine family heirloom to present to him on his 12th birthday. I have enclosed some before and after photos that show your Professional workmanship.

Pictures 01 and 02 don’t really show the color as you know it is affected by light. Pictures 03 and 04 really show off the color and how it blends with the stock and forearm. Again, thank you,

SCOTT LATHROP

Good morning Jay,
Yesterday, I was notified by the Postman that I had a large box waiting for me to pick-up at the Quantico Post Office. I knew exactly what it was and wasted no time in picking it up. When I opened the box, I as greeted with a superbly parkerized M1 Garand. Thank you! It was a flawless job and once I marry it up to the stock, it will be a source of great inspection by many of the Marines I work with, here at Quantico. Talk about a critical review! The new stock should be here by next week, and I will be happy to take a series of photographs for you, and provide a letter of endorsement concerning how easy it was to get the rifle to you, have a beautiful job done on it, and having it returned far better than it was when I sent to The Shooter's Roost. Most impressive work! Thank you, Jay, and please thank the people who work with you, for doing such an excellent job. I will certainly recommend The Shooter's Roost to any one who asks about where this fine work was done. It was an absolute pleasure to do business with a professional.

Hi Jay,
I finally bought a digital camera and took some pictures. Attached are reduced resolution for the hot blue job you did on my Arietta and what bead blasting looks like on a custom Huglu.
Your bluing is holding up much better than the original bluing on my Arietta.
Pictures are attached. [see photos on our Hot Bluing page]

I have received my Hi-Power 9mm clone auto pistol which you Parkerized. I am very pleased. I like the Parkerized finish even better than I expected. Your workmanship was excellent.
  Thanks, Nick Allen

At T.B.S. Gun Works, we build custom barrels for competition and require precise quality work. When we’re done, all of our bluing work goes to The Shooter’s Roost. The quality is great and the turn around time is, too. I’ve been in business for a lot of years and I’ve worked with a lot of service companies. When you find this kind of craftsmanship, you don’t look any further.

We have been using the Shooter's Roost (TSRI) to do all of our bluing and parkerizing for the last 1 1/2 years and have been very pleased with the work. Jay Bailey is a very conscientious gunsmith, and will always provide top quality work, fair pricing, and quick turnaround. That's what I require for any of our outsourcing, and we have found it with TSRI.

Shooter's Roost has restored and reblued two guns for me, one a 1903 hammerless 32 pocket Colt and the other a 1979 Remington 870 Wingmaster. Both now look and shoot like brand new. I've recommended Jay to several friends who have wanted older guns refinished or who want to upgrade the finish on new project guns. He does good, old-fashioned work, and in the same spirit stands behind it.

A letter from a valued customer

Dear Jay,

I wanted to write and let you know how much I appreciate you bringing my Ithaca back to life. This Ithaca was handed down through generations and they had definitely taken their tole on the old shotgun.

It's so nice in today's times to find someone who cares and takes pride in the work they perform. Many are only concerned about getting the job done - not getting the job done right. You obviously have great pride in what you do. I thank you for all you have done.

Being the third generation that has used this gun, I never had the chance to see what she looked like new. I have a suspicion, she didn't look as good then as you have restored her to look like today. Thank you so much for taking the time to carefully preserve the etching that makes this gun so unique and special.

Please feel free to have anyone call me that may need a reference on your quality of work. I will recommend you highly.

  Thank you and sincerely,
  Sid Smith
